Vintage 1930's H.W. Wilson Flavouring Extracts (1 Gal.) Stoneware Crock Jug. From the H.W. Wilson Co. Ltd., Saint John, New Brunswick. This is an EMPTY crock from the early 1930's for collectible purposes or display. This company may have been in business as early as 1917 but under a different name. H.W. Wilson is first listed in the directory in 1931. In 1917 he is listed as the manager of Wilson Chemical Co. In 1921 the Wilson Chemical Co. is described as "manufacturers, grocers and druggists' sundries". In the 1922 directory he is listed as manager of Murray Company of Canada, Limited, which sold fruits and syrups. From 1923-28, he was again listed as manager for the Wilson Chemical Co. In the 1929 directory he is listed as manager of Wilson-Murray Company, Limited, "manufacturers, grocers, specialties, fountain fruits and syrups." Finally in 1931, the name changed to H.W. Wilson. This company remained in business until 1972. Excellent condition. There are a few minor chips on the lip and around the shoulder. There is also some very minor rubbing on the stamp. Overall very clean & displayable condition. Displays very nicely with a bright glaze. Great piece of history from Saint John, New Brunswick. Good addition to any crock collection. This is a 1 gallon crock that measures approx- 12" inches in height, 7 1/4" inches in diameter at the base. No maker's mark but this is likely a piece that was made by Foley Pottery in Saint John.
