Rare. Antique Early 1900's Salesman Sample Spring Door Hinge. From the Chicago Spring Butt Co., Chicago, Illinois. This salesman sample would have been used by a travelling salesman to show to potential customers, or in a hardware or general store for display. This piece would date from 1890-1915. Salesman Samples were always very well designed in order to demonstrate the functionality of the item and to appear flawless and appealing to the customer. This salesman sample is fully functional and the left side swings both ways to demonstrate the quality of their hinges. Excellent condition. Appears to have been re-finished. There is some very minor pitting on the little brass emblem on the front. Hinge is a little bit surface rusty. Overall very clean & displayable condition. Beautifully stained. Very neat little brass emblem on front which displays the name and location of the manufacturer. Extremely rare piece. This is one of the nicest salesman sample door hinges I've ever seen.
