$300 · RARE- Pair of King of Diamond Brass Candlesticks English c1897
Family Heirloom: A Pair of King of Diamond Candlesticks
An important pair of Victorian candlesticks. Part of the diamond series that was struck to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The original set included these Kings, a slightly smaller pair of Queens and the exceptionally rare pair of Aces that are even larger then the Kings.
Collectors know that each candlestick must be stamped with the appropriate name - The King (Ace or Queen) of Diamonds. Often these are worn because of polishing but can still be detected. In 1901 after Victoria's death the Prince and Princesses were released. Similar in appearance at first glance but the later two have more elongated diamonds in the center and beading. The wording also differs - Those say The Diamond Prince (or Princess) - the complete set of 5 pairs go in excess of $8000. Half of that price is usually the Aces alone.
Great value. These sell at antiques shops for $800 - $995.
Diameter: 4 inches
